We are proud to share information about the William Miller Memorial Award and invite our Magic community to take part in honouring the legacy it represents.

This award was introduced in memory of William Miller, a much-loved and valued member of the Barossa Magic Basketball Club and the wider Barossa Basketball family.

William had a fierce love for the game, which was evident through every part of his involvement, playing at club level and with Settlers, participating in the DNSP program, coaching younger teams, refereeing, and always being an enthusiastic and supportive spectator.

William was known for helping younger players during and between games, for his curiosity and passion for learning the rules and plays of basketball, and, of course, for his enthusiasm in finding his next pair of unique basketball shoes! Above all, he gave generously to the game and to those around him.

The William Miller Memorial Award is presented annually at our Summer Season Presentations to a member of the Barossa Magic Basketball Club who has embodied William’s dedication to the sport, the club, and the wider basketball community.

The Miller family have always acknowledged that while junior players and umpires play a vital role in our club, so too do the many others who contribute to its success behind the scenes and on the sidelines. For this reason, nominations are now open to all members of our Magic family.

Families are invited to nominate any individual within the club who you feel truly lives the legacy of what the William Miller Memorial Award stands for. Whether that person is a player, coach, team manager, umpire, volunteer, or parent. We encourage you to look within our Magic community and nominate someone who gives to the Barossa Magic Basketball Club in the way William did, with passion, generosity, commitment, and care for others.

To support the intent of the award, nominations should consider the following criteria:

The nominee has given back to the Club and consistently represents the Barossa Magic Basketball Club in a positive way.

The nominee has been involved with the Club for a minimum of two (2) seasons.
